The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatics emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. The blended learning format allows students to work independently on theory through a series of informational videos and tutorials. They then present what skills they learned in a hands-on class.

Upon completion of this course participants will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED valid for 2 years.

This blended learning course combines online learning with in-person skill sessions conducted by Stacey Butler, Red Cross-certified instructor. The ONLINE PORTION MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS and takes approximately 20 HOURS to complete.

Dates and Times: 

Friday, May 20th – 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm (Pre-Course Skills Test and Intro to course)
Saturday, May 21st – 11:00 am – 3:30 pm (Lifeguarding skills and CPR/AED)
Sunday, May 22nd – 9 am –  2:00 pm (In-water portion and Final Test)

REGISTRATION CLOSES SATURDAY, MAY 14th.

Mandatory Prerequisites:

  • Must be at least 15 years old by the last day of the course
  • Must complete online portion prior to first day of class. A link will be sent to you as soon as the instructor receives your registration.

Successful completion of skills pre-test:

  • 300-yard continuous swim (freestyle and/or breaststroke)
  • Tread water with no hands for 2 minutes
  • Swim approx. 20 yards, surface dive to depth of 7-12 feet, retrieve 10lb object, kick on back carrying the object approx. 20 yards, exit the pool without the ladder in under 1 minute and 40 seconds

The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Blended Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over
