Creative Movement & Intro to Ballet


Creative Movementballet

Participants will learn the 5 basic dance steps.  Emphasis will be on learning, socialization, having fun & following directions

Ages:  3-5 years

Days:  Tuesday & Thursday

Time:  3:45-4:15

Cost:  $38 members/$68 non-members

Intro to Ballet

Participants will progress to the next level of training:  posse, pique, rombe de jombe, arabesque, and attitude.  They will also begin to learn spacing, moving together, leaps, and pirouettes.

Days:  Tuesday & Thursday

Time:  4:15-5:00 PM

Cost:  $40 members/$75 non-members


Enhance Fitness

ActiveOlderAdultsThe Montana YMCA Alliance, with the help of Centers for Disease Control, is bringing a statewide initiative to help citizens better understand arthritis.

Arthritis affects 1 in 5, or 52.5 million American adults, and is the nation's most common form of disability.




Enhance Fitness is a chronic disease prevention program designed to help improve daily living.

Enhance Fitness is evidence based through studies several studies and finding:

  • 52% improvement in depression
  • 35% improvement in physical function
  • Participants had fewer hospitalizations & $945 less in annual healthcare costs

16 week session runs January 18 - May 6.

Class meets Monday, Tuesday, & Friday from 1:30-2:30 PM at the Helena Family YMCA.

MAX-FIT is a high-intensity, total body sport conditioning workout program incorporating cardio, strength training, weights, plyometric, & agility exercises.  You will be stronger, healthier, lose weight, tone up, & gain confidence!

Classes progress each week building upon 'skills & drills' learned on the speed ladder, through a dynamic warm-up with dot training and a circuit routine from the week(s) before.

Spring I: February 22 - March 25

Spring II: April 18 - May 20

Monday - Wednesday - Friday, 6 - 6:45 AM

Teens!  Questions about fitness?

Are you wanting to learn how to use the fitness equipment? Are you needing instruction on proper lifting technique, using the cardio machines, or learning about free weights?

Our popular Teen Fitness class continues this spring.  Class is led by Helena Family YMCA Health & Wellness Director Katie Gilboy and meets three consecutive weeks on Wednesdays  in the Community Room.




Last session before summer: June 14, 15, and 16 at 4:00 pm

Fall Sessions: September 14, 21, and 28 at 6:00 pm

October 12, 19, and 26 at 6:00 pm

November 2, 9, and 16 at 4:00 pm

Class Schedule:  Class 1:  Nutrition & Healthy Eating, Class 2:  Muscles & Movements, Class 3:  Equipment Orientation & Technique

** Please note, all 3 classes must be attended **

*Students will receive card entitling use of the YMCA Fitness Center
*Students will learn safe practices and techniques in using workout equipment   *Students will receive a $10 Hastings gift certificate upon completion of the class

A (5) student minimum and a (12) student maximum will be applied to the session.               Enroll at the Helena Family YMCA Front Desk.                                                   Total cost $15 for Members, $20 for prospective-Members.

Summer Slam Rules

Helena's 3rd annual Summer Slam 3-on-3 basketball tournament will take place on the blacktop at the Y parking lot. For those entering 3rd grade through adults, all are invited to participate in this fun, outdoor summer basketball tournament.

Summer Slam is Helena's outdoor 3-on-3 basketball tournament.  Tournament is open to Players of all ages and abilities.

Youth Divisions for each Girls and Boys entering 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th grades. High School and Adult Divisions both host Female, Male, and Co-ed.

Weekend event includes games, music, food, and Player's and Champion's shirts for each division. Games will be played at YMCA parking lot near Centennial Park. Participants form their own teams of 3 players minimum and 4 players maximum and submit registration form to Helena Family YMCA.

$80 per Youth & High School team, $100 per Adult team.

*To guarantee a player t-shirt & correct size, Registration Forms must be received by: deadline TBA.

**To be eligible for the tournament, teams must be registered by: deadline TBA.

These are the tenets of Taekwondo as taught by Diana Wilson V Dan Instructor.

Classes are taught Mondays & Thursdays 6:30 - 8:00 PM.  All ages welcome.


As part of engaging our community in a healthy, active lifestyle the Helena Family YMCA is offering Friday Evening Dancing.



During the winter months of January & February the Y is partnering with several dance studios & clubs in Helena hosting a range of dances to be taught including Swing (Carroll College Student Club), Country Two-Step (Tim Pattison), & International Folk (Contra Dancing of Helena, Cedron Jones).  Drop-ins are welcome, no partner necessary.

Members:  Free      non-Members:  $3 per single, $5 per couple

*Cost of Open Floor is already covered for non-Members who paid to participate in the Beginning Dancing


Classes are open to all ages and ability levels.

Couples and individuals are invited, although dance partners will be rotated at times throughout the instructional portion.

What to Wear

Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes with non-marking soles.  If possible, please avoid rubber soled shoes.

YMCA Health & Wellness Director Katie Gilboy will be your guide offering advice, demonstrations, and instructions on the proper use of all fitness equipment. This knowledge will help you build a better plan in achieving your health and fitness goals.
