Hi Members,
I am writing this update as I listen to the sounds of pickleball being played in the gym. Earlier, I witnessed the pool at maximum capacity during the 9-10 am master swim class with Paul and Peggy. Absent are the sounds I miss the most, the ladies arriving for Leslie’s water aerobics class, and the sound of dribbling basketballs, and “SHOT” called out in our gym.
There are many reasons why we will not be able to offer winter sports, and they all relate to COVID-19. The school district is doing everything to stay open for school but is not renting gym space. Currently, with the rise of new cases, our health department does not recommend indoor contact sports.
On the bright spot, starting Tuesday the 17th of November, we are adding limited lap swimming to the schedule. Lap swimming will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:45-11:45 am. You need to sign-up online with Sign-up Genius to reserve your spot. There will only be eight spots available, two per lane. All COVID-19 protocols must be followed. Hopefully, we can add additional time in the future.
I need your help: If you do not feel well, or have any of the following symptoms: cough, fever, muscle aches, loss of sense of smell or taste, or shortness of breath, please do not come to the Y. Not only do we want you to take care of yourself, but this is also required per the Governor’s updated directive. Staying home reduces the risk of COVID-19 being spread through our facility. Many businesses have shut down briefly as they were hit with an outbreak among their staff. I am desperately trying to avoid this happening to us.
We are hiring for our distance learning for school-aged children program at the fairgrounds. If you know a responsible person that likes working with kids, and can pass a background check, have them send their resume or contact Alex Reid with questions at [email protected]
Stay healthy and be well!
