It’s not about creating the next Lebron James, Mia Hamm, or even making varsity. It’s about kids being kids, kids having fun, kids staying healthy, and adult volunteers working together to make our community great. Sinking a shot may or may not get a kid into college, but mastering the art of shooting a basketball builds confidence and confidence goes from the court to the classroom. Confidence follows kids wherever they go and gives kids a boost throughout life. And when you miss, but keep trying… well that’s perseverance and perseverance will keep you coming back to the Y to practice your shot, work on your game or meet up with friends. Staying healthy and making good choices; that’s youth development, healthy living and social responsibility in a nutshell. You might not be on the varsity team at your school, but at the Y you always have a place to play.

Grade Levels: PreK-2nd Grade: Floor hockey is a fun way for boys and girls ages 3-8 years old to stay active when the weather is still unpredictable. We use foam sticks & foam pucks/balls for a safe and fun experience. Games are usually held during the week and local gymnasiums.
Pickleball is one of the country's fastest growing games among all ages.
It's a mix of super-sized ping pong & miniature tennis. Pickleball is fast paced using paddles & a wiffleball on a small playing court utilizing volleys, lob shots, backhands, forehands, and crushing hits.
Games can be played with both doubles and singles on both inside and outside surfaces.
All ages and abilities are welcome to play. At the Y we have three indoor regulation pickleball courts. Play is pickup style and ability levels are often integrated helping to raise skill sets while allowing the game to grow.
The Helena Family YMCA has easy setup nets, wooden paddles, and teal pickleballs for playing. Some players choose to bring a personal paddle and preferred ball.
At the Y pickleball is scheduled weekly and can also be played during open gym time.
